Suspected DUI Leads To Rail Impaling Vehicle


On Friday July 1st 2016 at approximately 11:30 am, Sugarloaf Police responded to a one car motor vehicle accident along Route 93 near Tomhicken Road.

Through further investigation, officers discovered that the male driving the vehicle was under the influence of a controlled substance.

The driver and sole occupant was identified as Juan Martinez, 58, of Hazleton.

Martinez will be charged with DUI related charges pending blood draw results.

Martinez's van exited the roadway at an apparent high rate of speed when it struck a guide rail which impaled the vehicle under the hood, through the dash, between the front seats, and stopping at a rear passenger seat.

Martinez recieved minimal injuries in the accident.
