New Jersey Police Officer Arrested After Hitting Multiple Vehicles While Under The Influence


At 3:15 pm on Thursday June 16th 2016, the Hazleton Police Department received multiple reports of a silver SUV striking vehicles and fleeing the area.

At least five vehicles were struck throughout Hazleton, beginning in the area of 924 and Broad Streets. Some of the vehicles were being operated and some were parked at the time.

A citizen followed the fleeing SUV while on the phone with 911 to the area of 15th and Locust where the vehicle was unable to be driven any further.

Hazleton Police arrived to find a silver Nissan Armada with heavy front end damage and airbags deployed.

The driver was identified as William F. McCarthy III, 45, of Great Meadows New Jersey, a police officer with the Washington Township Police Department in Morris County New Jersey.

McCarthy was transported to LVH for a BAC exam under suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol.

No injuries were reported, however multiple vehicles were damaged throughout the incident.
