COPS Filming In Hazleton Causes Concern - Chief And Mayor Respond

On May 23rd, a bomb was dropped on the Hazleton area.

COPS would be filming in Hazleton!

The show which generally portrays accomplishments or positive reflections of the police officers had instantly caused concern with a large amount of local citizens.

Many brought up concerns about local "criminals" attempting to get on TV by committing a crime. Many others saw the TV series choosing Hazleton as an embarrassment to the area, believing that COPS chose Hazleton due to it's high crime levels.

Presumably sparked by the high levels of concern, Mayor Jeff Cusat and Chief Jerry Speziale each released statements about the filming.

Chief Speziale supported the filming, citing the positive reflection on the police department and the portrayal of the city's stance on crime.

Mayor Cusat released that he had asked the show to film in Hazleton to showcase the police, and referenced to the filming as an opportunity. He described the filming as a virtual ride along with the HPD for the entire city, state, and country.
