Local Historical Architectural Styles - Greater Hazleton Historical Society

In an attempt to promote knowledge on local history, Hazleton News 1 has been working in an effort to collect posts and information from the Greater Hazleton Historical Society and Museum:

Thomas, Martin, and Kirkpatrick was a prominent Philadelphia architectural firm that played a critical role in Hazleton’s downtown.

The Parisian-trained architects were known for employing the beaux-arts style in their buildings and for constructing churches throughout Philadelphia.

Following the demolition of the Pardee Mansion, the architects were hired to develop the stretch of downtown between Church and Laurel Streets.

What resulted was the Hotel Altamont and Hazleton National Bank, fraternal twins completed in 1924.

The following year, the architects built the present Christ Lutheran Church on West Green Street. The high-style English Collegiate Gothic building was built in Cynwydd stone ashlar quarried near Philadelphia.

It was modeled on the Church of the Holy Apostles and Mediator in West Philadelphia.
