In an attempt to promote knowledge on local history, Hazleton News 1 has been working in an effort to collect posts and information from the Greater Hazleton Historical Society and Museum:

Hazleton's First Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Church and Broad, was founded in 1838.

In its early years, members met at a combination church and school at the corner of Church and Green Streets from 1838 until it was destroyed by fire in 1853. Services were then held in a school house situated on Cedar street and later in the brick school building on Green street.

The current structure was built in 1854 and is the oldest church building in the city.
