Tractor Trailer Fires Close Interstate

Just before 8pm, multiple area fire departments responded to the area of Interstate 80 Eastbound mile 253, near Route 93 for a report of a tractor trailer fire.

Sugarloaf Township fire initially responded, requesting Valley Regional and Nescopeck Township Fire to respond with their engines and tankers also.

Multiple tractor trailers were reported to be actively burning upon the arrival of crews.

Interstate 80 East was quickly shut down between Route 93 and 339. A line of cars that had passed the Conyngham/Nescopeck exit had become stuck and forced to wait until the fire was out and the area was clear.

One trailer was fully involved, with the drivier being unaccounted for. Roughly 20 minutes into battling the blaze, the driver was accounted for.

At approximately 8:15, Foster Township Fire was requested to respond with their tanker, while other tankers left to refill.

At approximately 8:45, Valley Regional Fire's Rehab unit was requested to respond, providing rehydration, shelter, and medical attention for the firefighters.

At approximately 9:20, crews began allowing the halted commuters to pass.

No injuries were reported in this incident. The fully involved trailer has been reported to have been hauling shoes.
