Council Member Cancels Meeting Due To Cooking A Turkey Instead Of Checking E-Mails

Jean Mope, Hazleton City Council, Told the public about Tuesday December 1st's council meeting being cancled due to there being no agenda made for the meeting because of the Thanksgiving holiday and City Hall being closed on Friday.

Mope expressed her sarcastic thanks to WYLN News for airing council member John Keegan's concerns which were described as "ranting and raving" by Mope. Mope pointed out that neither Jack Mundi of City Council and herself were not afforded time to rant and rave.

Citizens expressed concern about the meeting being cancled by Mope for the reason of there being no agenda ready... However, the agenda was in the hands of multiple people.

John Keegan posted copies of the December 1st meeting agenda online for the world to see. He also included a page that clearly states that the December 1st council meeting agenda was sent to Jean Mope. What was her defense?

Mope stated that she had problems with her computer and never received the e-mail.

She also went on to explain that unlike John (Keegan) she didn't have the time to sit at her computer all day and was making a 22 lb turkey for 11 people and running a reunion on Saturday.

Council members receive $3,850 per year for holding their position. Members get paid even if they do not attend meetings. This assumably holds true if they neglect their e-mails due to cooking and hosting reunions, then deciding to cancel meetings out of ignorance.
