Amanda Devine Will Plead Guilty To Stealing $30,000 From Fire Department

Amanda Devine, former Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company treasurer, has agreed to plead guilty to theft in exchange for dropping a felony charge of Receiving Stolen Property.

Devine did not have an attorney for her hearing on Wednesday in front of Magistrate Homanko due to not meeting the requirements for receiving a public defender. She chose not to hire private counsel.

A public defender is granted to those who cannot afford counsel. Wednesday's hearing was coincidentially within days of Devine setting up a website asking for donations through GoFundMe.

Devine stated on the donation page that she was not raising money for legal counsel, but that she was being evicted in the next few days and needed money to keep her children from being homeless or forced to move.

The plea for money was answered by a donation of $40 before numerous individuals reported the donation campaign to GoFundMe staff and reportedly the police.

Coincidentially, Devine did not have an attorney for her hearing, where she was charged with stealing approximately $30,000 from the Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Devine's husband was also the chief of the fire company, prior to the theft and the township decided to not use the company due to the issues it has been having. Residents now rely on farther fire companies to respond due to the Kidder Township company not being used.

Devine will be pleading guilty to a third degree felony and will pay over $32,000 in restitution.
