Man Arrested For armed Robbery, Breaking Into Home,Friday Afternoon In Hazleton


Around 3:40 on Friday October 13th, Hazleton Police Officer McAlarney had observed what appeared to be an armed robbery in progress in the area of Vine and 7th.

The male, later identified as Mark Antonio Madera, who was seen pointing a gun at two other individuals had reportedly jumped a fence and fled on foot after seeing police.

Officer McAlarney requested backup, and responding units effectively established a perimeter, containing Madera in a one block radius.

Madera was described as wearing a blue jacket, black pants, and a white shirt. He was witnessed with a silver handgun that he placed in his waistband as he attempted to flee from police.

Hazleton Police state that Madera broke into a residence in the 600 block of Alter Street while attempting to flee from officers.

Madera was taken in to custody while attempting to jump over a fence.

Hazleton Police made contact with two male victims who were witnessed being robbed in the area of Vine and 7th, who confirmed that Madera did rob them at gunpoint.

The gun that Madera had was found in a yard, and all stolen property was returned to the two victims.

Madera, 28, of Hanover Township, was found to have a warrant out of Wilkes-Barre and Adult Parole.

Madera will be charged by HPD for Robbery, Burglary, Criminal Tresspass, Aggrevated Assault, Firearms violations, and other related charges.
