West Hazleton Gunshots Lead To Drug Bust

Just before 4pm Sunday afternoon, West Hazleton police responded to 117 West 22nd Street in West Hazleton for a report of a drive-by shooting.

Reportedly, a tan or brown colored 4 door Honda, which was occupied by multiple individuals, may have been involved in the shooting.

5-6 shots were heard, and it is unknown if anyone was injured.

Police were investigating the situation when they reportedly came across a marijuana growing operation in the home.

Two men were initially taken in to custody, and two more were reportedly detained from the area afterward.

Hazleton News 1 initially reported that an anonymous tip had stated that the house was being used to grow marijuana.

This tip had stated that a strong smell of marijuana was coming from the home, and that garbage bags of clippings were being thrown away.

West Hazleton Police and the Attorney General have been investigating the home.

It has been released by officers that the basement of the house was being used as a large grow operation with lighting and altered electrical panels.

Some residents are shocked by the activity in the area for over 6 hours.

The West Hazleton Fire Department responded to add lighting for officers around 10pm.

"That was the only nice area of this town left...." one resident stated in the comment section on Hazleton News 1. More updates will be posted as they come in.
