HPD Follows Black Bear Through City - Game Commission Safely Removes The Animal

Just before 8am this morning, Hazleton police responded to a report of a black bear in the area of Lee Court between Church and Laurel Street.
Officers followed the bear across Laurel along Spruce toward the area of the Dragonfly Cafe and Carmen's.
The bear then crossed Broad Street, through a parking lot, and along Laurel Street before heading over to Wyoming Street and continuing West.
The bear entered a yard in the area of Wyoming and Chapel, near the Boyer Funeral Home.
HPD corraled the bear for over an hour until the Game Commission arrived around 9am.
All HPD units closed off traffic through Wyoming, Chapel, and Walnut Streets.
West Hazleton officers managed calls in Hazleton City while the officers were tied up.
Chief Frank DeAndrea was on scene.
After the game commission sucessfully sedated th bear, Chief DeAndrea made sure that all involved in the situation were safe, expressing that onlookers be kept back as to not scare the groggy bear.
Hazleton News 1 would like to congratulate the Hazleton Police Department on a job well done.
No injuries were reported, and the bear was safely transported out of the city limits.
