Bans Announced On The Sale Of Confederate Flags

The Charleston South Carolina "Church Massacre" has started a movement in America's leading merchants.

Wal-Mart, Amazon, and eBay have announced bans on the sale of Confederate flag merchandise.

The Confederate flag, often called the "Stars and Bars", was flown from March 4th 1861 to May 1st 1863.

The Confederate flag is a controversial symbol for many Americans today., being viewed as a sign of racism by many.

Others view it as a symbol of Southern ancestry and heritage as well as representing a distinct and independent cultural tradition of the Southern United States from the rest of the country

The flag had flown above the State House buildin in South Carolina until a Gov. Nikki R Haley called for South Carolina to remove the Confederate battle flag from it's perch on Monday.

She acknowledged that some South Carolinians respect and revere the flag not as a racist symbol but as “a way to honor ancestors.” However, she added, the flag, “while an integral part of our past, does not represent the future of our great state.”

The flag has always been a subject of controvercy, but it has risen to a nationwide issue, effecting merchants and State traditions after pictures had emerged of Dylann Roof, the suspect in Wednesday's massacre, posing for numerous photos with the confederate battle flag.
